How it is calculated
Tiles = ceiling(area / single-tile area × (1 + waste/100)). Boxes = ceiling(tiles / tiles per box). Convert tile dimensions to the same area unit.
Worked example
Covering 10 m² with 50 × 50 cm tiles and 10% waste needs 44 tiles. At eight tiles per box, purchase rounding gives six boxes.
Before you calculate
Use the net surface area you intend to tile and the actual tile dimensions. The waste percentage is an editable purchase allowance, not a simulated cutting loss. Check the supplier's number of pieces per box rather than assuming a standard pack.
Interpreting the result
The calculator uses equivalent area and does not produce an exact tile layout. Patterns, diagonals, cuts and room geometry can change waste. Joint width is not used to reduce the purchase quantity, and box rounding can leave surplus.
Use the units shown beside each field. Monetary fields labelled EUR stay in euros; changing language does not exchange currencies. Results are estimates under the stated assumptions.
