How it is calculated

Document width = trim width + 2 × bleed. Document height = trim height + 2 × bleed.

Worked example

An A4 trim size of 210 × 297 mm with 3 mm bleed on each edge requires a 216 × 303 mm document.

Before you calculate

Enter the final cut dimensions rather than an existing document size that already includes bleed. Bleed is specified per edge. Use the print provider's required value and keep important content inside an appropriate safe area.

Interpreting the result

Adding document area alone does not extend background artwork. Bleed, safe margins and crop marks serve different purposes. The calculator does not prescribe a universal print requirement or add crop-mark clearance.

Use the units shown beside each field. Monetary fields labelled EUR stay in euros; changing language does not exchange currencies. Results are estimates under the stated assumptions.
